Should we stop paying the rent?

Last August we reported to our landlord and the real estate that we had a leak from the upstairs shower( coming through light fitting) and a leak in the downstairs cloak room. We had no reply from anyone and as we were going away the downstairs leak was bad so we got in a plumber and paid him the �75 to fix it. we deducted this from our next months rent, and nothing was said. We still have a leak in the shower and we now have hole in lounge ceiling, got hold of landlord who said they were ordering new shower tray this was 4 weeks ago, we haven't been able to use the shower since last year and now my husband is talking of stopping the rent altogether until something is done, are we entitled to do so? Or is there another way to get this sorted?
